Oh, my goodness! I love the taste of grass fed beef. for some reason I find it more pleasing and 'buttery' than grain fed. Have not had a chance to taste Wagyu although I have had Kobe...

Sonia, it's a fine point. Kobe beef is only sold in Japan and only exported to Macao. To quote the Allen Brothers, who specialize in steaks, "The meat from Wagyu cattle is known worldwide for its marbling characteristics and naturally enhanced, flavor, tenderness, and juiciness. Wagyu takes steak to another level. Just as Champagne can only be used when describing sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France, the name Kobe is reserved exclusively to describe Wagyu cattle raised in the Kobe region of Japan for more than 1800 years. Hence, any Wagyu cattle raised outside of Kobe must go by the names Wagyu or Kobe-style." So, in essence, you have tasted the same type of beef. It's origin is probably the same in the islands as on the mainland since Japan does not export the Kobe beef.

There used to be a restaurant in Hilo (Kaikodo) that claimed to import Kobe...

We do have Wagyu being raised on this island, but I haven't had the pleasure yet...

Oh, well you must. Really, there is not beef that compares to Wagyu. You will love it. And I hasten to add, I don't eat much beef at all but this is deletable. Truly.

We don't eat much beef either, and for the last couple of years, what we do eat is grass fed. I just found out recently that one of our ranches in the nw part of island is raising Wagyu

Oh, Sassy, it was a rich mouthful of food. I could hardly get my mouth open wide enough. Finally ended up taking out some of the onion straws and smashed that sucker down. Haha.
