For Catholics that means St Joseph's Day. In the Catholic religion, St Joseph was the "Foster Father" of Â Jesus, husband of the Virgin Mary. This is primarily an Italian Holiday. If thereâ€™s one food St. Josephâ€™s Day deserves to be as famous forÂ as its Irish counterpart for, itâ€™s zeppole, sometimes spelled zeppoli or called sfinge di San Giuseppe. These small doughnuts are usually dusted with sugar and can be filled with jelly, custard or ricotta cream like the kind in cannoli.

Honey, Cinnamon or Powdered Sugar, serve warm these were grandma's favorite! She called them Crispelles, herÂ Region was Rome, Italy. Â A little late since her own traditionsÂ with these were always madeÂ on ChristmasÂ Eve, but they reminded me of the fried Zeppole for St. Joseph's Day so I wanted toÂ make them in her honor.Â Â Served in paper bags atÂ many feasts andÂ carnevales
by Regions, so many differentÂ variations. HersÂ were made with raisins, pineÂ nuts orÂ plain.

Cuban Catholics also celebrate St Joseph's Day...It is one of the biggest saint days (along with June 24th, St. Anthony's Day) in the religious calendar...My son was born on St. Joe's Day, but I didn't name him Joseph...I named him Anthony... ;-)

Very cool story god bless your son! Wonderful name... I was suppose to be Matthew, we have a Luke and John, no one expected a girl so after Pontious Pilot it was his wifes name came Claudia... now my brother John named his son Matthew so we came full circle!

Now, THAT is a cool story....my son is Anthony because my father was Antonio...and my father was born on June 24th, St. Anthony's day...

I was born on St. Juliana's Day and my Cuban grandmother wanted me to have that name tagged along with my other two, but my mom stood her ground... Years later, while visiting Spain and in a little village called Santillana del Mar (which is a contraction of Santa Juliana of the Sea) off the Coast of Cantabria, I found the “Colegiata” (Saint Juliana´s collegiate church), the most important religious monument of the Romanesque in the area, according to the website. The tomb of Saint Juliana is in the middle of the nave. although I do not carry her name, I felt an affinity to her because I was born on "her day".
