Janna, that's a killer menu. One of my favorites is in Los Angeles is Jinkys which is a nice very small cafe with personalized service.

Sonia, I'm going out for a change. First time in years that I'm not constructing the meal. I admit it's somewhat of a relief. That photo of the salad is from a few years ago. I should make sure I still have that recipe because it was really good!

I really like the looks of it. Maybe sprinkle a few roasted walnuts around....
What type dressing do you use on this?

Sonia, Hah, the dressing is a homemade Balsamic Raspberry vinaigrette. Sometimes I serve it warm. Roasted walnuts sound good. I did serve this with candied pecans on the side.

Mmmmm that does sound good. I have some 'white' Balsamic, which is not really white, but it does taste good in vinaigrettes...
When my NC niece and husband were here in November they brought us 2 big bags of shelled pecans. We use them sparingly. Pecans can be expensive here when we can find them.

I feel so fortunate to have the food choices living where I do. California has such a wonderful bounty of fruits, vegetables, nuts and cheeses. Animal proteins too. What I miss is what you have: exotic and tropical fruits. True we get lots of South American produce here but I avoid buying it. I do buy produce from Mexico though because I consider it local being only 20 minutes or so away.

Overall, I can say I am quite pleased with the food choices we have, but once in a while I have a hankering for what we can't find or is not easily found... Like I would absolutely love to find a big selection of cheeses, but except for one health food store in Hilo that carries (a limited selection) of some harder to find cheeses here, there is nothing but the normal, generic selection found in any supermarket cheese section.

That's a deal breaker for me. I can't live without cheese! I did notice that on one of our visits though. We rented a condo and I wanted to serve a cheese and fruit platter. No go.

The 14th Feb happens to be the birthday that Bob and I share - the following day we will go out and have something to eat. In fact, we will be flying to Australia and the airline dinner will be a belated Valentine's Day/ birthday meal.

Hmmm ... as to the question, Madame and Bob, the entree can be chocolate mousse with fresh whipped cream. Then who needs dessert?

I kind of put that idea to the test in a restaurant in provincial France. The waiter came and took the dessert trolley away from our table.

I love that table setting. Who wouldn't want to stare into the eyes of their Valentine across it? Thanks Madame. My favorite part of the meal is apres dessert.

Yes, I failed to make mention of the table centerpiece...I love the colors and feel of the old Chinese pottery bowls....and scattered rose petals are a good touch...
