New! McDonald's Pineapple Mango Smoothie

Pineapple and mango lovers rejoice!??  McDonald's has added a new flavor to their smoothie line-up.

Sassy found a coupon for a free 12 ounce smoothie with purchase of a sandwich in the Parade section of the Sunday paper a couple weeks ago.  The price of a 12 ounce smoothie is $2.29.  Contains 220 calories, 49g carbs, 49g sugar (WOW!), 3g protein.

I like it!  "sweet mango and juicy pineapple blended with creamy low fat yogurt and ice" Heavy on the pineapple flavor, not so much mango flavor.  It went very well with a bacon cheeseburger. But there are more ingredients than just pineapple and mango in the fruit base:

"Water, clarified demineralized pineapple juice concentrate, mango puree concentrate, pineapple juice concentrate, orange juice concentrate, pineapple puree, passion fruit juice, apple juice concentrate, natural (botanical source) and artificial flavors, contains less than 1% of the following: peach puree, cellulose powder, peach juice concentrate, pear juice concentrate, xanthan gum, pectin, citric acid, colored with fruit and vegetable juice and turmeric extract, ascorbic acid (preservative)."

It could not simply contain pineapple juice and mango puree??  Honestly, you could buy a half gallon of pure pineapple juice at the grocer on sale for about the same price and add some ice for a comparable taste experience.

On a scale of one to ten, Sassy awards McDonald's Pineapple Mango Smoothie a 6.  Tastes great, but frugal Sassy will purchase pineapple juice at the grocer and drop some ice cubes in it.
