Banana Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe with photo

These cake-like cookies use a ripe banana and mini semi-sweet chocolate chips.  A great combination!  If you like banana bread or muffins, you will love these Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies.

I found the recipe in The Best of Country Cookies book which was published by Reiman Publications in 1999.  The book is no longer being sold by Reiman, but you can pick up used copies at Amazon.   There are a lot of wonderful cookie recipes in it. 

Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup honey
1 ripe banana, mashed
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup miniature semi-sweet chocolate chips

Cream together shortening and sugar in mixing bowl.  Beat in eggs.  Then beat in milk, honey and banana.

Combine flour, baking powder and salt.  Gradually add dry mixture to banana mixture, beating until well mixed.  Stir in chocolate chips.

Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls 2-inches apart onto lightly greased baking sheets.  Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes until edges are lightly browned.

Makes 5 dozen cookies.

Oh my. I toss my over ripe bananas in the freezer and usually use them around holidays for Banana bread. Now I have something else to bake. WITH CHOCOLATE!

those you have in the freezer ~melt some chocolate and dip them in it and let them dry in the freezer yum frozen chocolate covered bananas. so good!!!

These sound delicious! I had a piece of low-fat banana chocolate chip coffee cake at Starbuck's this morning. It's delicious! Kiddos started back to school today, so I had coffee and did some shopping with a friend!

Thanks for sharing. Next time I get ripe bananas I will make these cookies. I have made a chocolate brownie recipe with ripe bananas, it is pretty good, but if people don't like bananas, they won't like the brownies that much. I think chocolate goes well with bananas.

Oh Lordy! They look delicious. I don't bake anymore unless I'm absolutely forced to and that's usually only during Xmas Holiday time. If you have any left, I'll take them.
