Hopefully I can remember to come back. Since I live in the town that is known as the birthplace of Memorial Day, there will be lots of celebrations and cookouts all weekend long.

I was lucky enough to try the Garlic Lime Fajitas, they were delicious! Even my super picky hubby liked them!

We are going to a Graduation BBQ on Saturday. Will hopefully be planting our garden on Memorial DAy. Although it FROZE here last night, was 29 degrees!

Here in Illinois we went from cold into 90+ temperatures with no transition time. At least we can cook outside this weekend when it promises to dip to 88. I love barbecuing and will use any excuse.

Hope your garden goes in well...when do you harvest with planting so late? Last year, it started freezing here before all the tomatoes came out.

I was sent the Garlic Lime Chicken Fajitas blend, but I haven't tried it yet. I was waiting for chicken breasts to go on sale. I'm going to get them tomorrow and possibly make them tomorrow night. They sound delicious!

I was given the Enchalida Casserole to try....I used chicken instead of ground beef. Oh, and then, get this....I WASHED the recipe card somehow. GRR!! I have no idea how it got in the washer, but I found the pieces of it when I switched the laundry a few minutes ago.

No graduations here, except for my younger sister, but she didn't go to her graduation ceremony. Too hot and boring, so she skipped it and is just getting her degree. I wish I had done that. I hated sitting through my graduation ceremony many years ago.

My parents and grandparents wished they hadn't attended either. My parents and grandparents had no desire to attend another one for my sister, so they were glad when she bailed on the ceremony.

Don't get me wrong everyone, nothing wrong with attending ceremonies for those who want to attend. My parents were proud of all of us for graduating; we would just prefer to celebrate in other ways.

It sort of depends on who the speaker is. I've been to some really good ones and some not-so-good ones.

I wish that I could have been at the ceremony on my college this year. There was someone I would have loved to have heard speak.

That's true Heather. I didn't have a good speaker at my graduation. My other sister said they could have had Robin Williams speak, but for some reason, they chose someone else not as good as him, and she would have liked to hear Robin Williams speak instead of who they picked.

Tis' the graduation season!

I just found out this week that Stephy will be having a Kindergarten graduation! Chandler didn't have one, haven't had them at their school for nearly 10 years.

Two new Kindergarten teachers this year, they are going to have one!

Oh, poor you Bridget. I'm so glad we don't do them here. I was talking to a friend whose daughter just had one....some of the parents went nuts about it.....got a professional photographer, caps, gowns, the whole works....it cost her as much as it cost me for Pher.

Okay, that's just nuts! I do high school graduation and that's it! This year is costing us a fortune, since we have so many graduation from so many different schools. It's 5 weeks of graduation. We give a gift or money for graduation....but I noticed that a lot of people down here don't.

I also tried the Spanish chicken skillet recipe inspiration packet. Gather didn't send it to me. I bought it myself, but I didn't like it. The combination of spices just didn't work for me.

Maybe I did something wrong when I prepared it, but it just didn't taste like I expected. I normally love Spanish/Mexican food, but this didn't turn out right for me.

Hmm... Probably no grilling here for me. It seems that I'm one of the few RVers who doesn't actually own a grill. I'll probably remedy that before the summer is over, but I doubt that it will be in time for this weekend.

The full-timers and even full-season RVers tend to grill. At least, that's how it has seemed at the places where I've been.
that's our plan this memorial day. we just bought a tent and are going camping! first time with the girls-i am so excited! we've taken them hiking before, but we always stayed in a hotel.

The only problem we had when my granddaughter was 2, was getting her to sleep in the tent. She cried for her crib for 20 minutes, and surrounding campers were ticked off and let us know about it. We felt bad, but what were we supposed to do? The second night was better, thank goodness!
Cindy, that is so good to know. That is my biggest fear-that they won't sleep! Hopefully they'll get used to it after a night or two.

I have to work on memorial day so I won't be cooking anything.

My MIL usually does grill that night though. The standard grilled burgers and dogs with potato salad or chips.

She always has tomatos too, and for the past few years they are tomatos she has grown herself.

Aloha grams are what we're selling at the school right now. It's a chance for kids to say "Goodbye" to their friends and teachers. And of course they can send a gram to themselves. They get to fill out a note plus they'll receive a goody bag with a Hawaiian lei, and a couple of other goodies.

We're invited to a Memorial Day BBQ at my brother and sister-in-laws house after we visit the cemetery to celebrate my niece's 6th birthday. We are a family of farmers, so when you get them to take a day off, you have to cram all the get-togethers into that one day.

The end of the school year has been really, really, really busy. There are only two functioning members of the Booster Club right now and one of them is me and I don't even have an official title! Though next year I get to be Fund-raising Chairperson :) Sadly our Booster president really abused her position the two years she did it and no one realized until it was to late. So we are picking up the pieces.

If anyone is looking for a good marinade for their cookouts, my boyfriend uses something called Cornell Sauce. Its used by those people who put on chicken BBQ's

All you need is......
2 cups oil
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 egg
3 teaspoons poultry seasoning and salt and pepper to taste. Marinate for 4-6 hours and baste as you cook. It is really good.

It does sound good, but it looks like it makes enough to marinate ALOT of chicken!

Yes, Cindy it does. The website where he got the recipe says you can put in in the fridge for up to 3 weeks if you don't use it all.

I may be going to a Memorial Day BBQ. I'm not familiar with McCormick Recipe Inspirations but I would love to give them a try! I love to try new spice mixtures and new recipes, but nothing too difficult.

They aren't difficult at all....and it's nice to have all the spices pre measured for you....and fresh. I should go through and throw out a bunch of old spices in my cupboard. I just don't want to have to go out and buy more.

Any age, really. they won't hurt them. it just depends on their taste. if mom ate spicy food and breastfed, they will probably have taste for it already. i'd just hold off on the really hot stuff

No. I haven't tried them, and probably won't. I might consider trying one of the recipes using the spices I already have, but I wouldn't buy a card with pre-measured spices attached to it.

"Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service."

It's basically a 3-day weekend. Americans usually celebrate this holiday by having picnics or barbecuing. It's also the day they have the Indy 500, a big car race.
It was originally celebrated on May 31 before the Monday Holiday Bill created mandatory 3 day weekends. Before WWI its focus was Civil War dead. After WWI people began to think of it in terms of the dead from other wars.

Sonny Boy Williamson II (Alec Rice Miller) recorded a great song called "Decoration Day."

If it's held this coming weekend - we also have a Bank Holiday on Monday (3 day weekend).

I've forgotten what the call it nowadays, probably 'Late May Bank Holiday' - but I suspect it is what we used to call 'Whitsun' holiday!

I can't wait to try the McCormick's Recipe Inspirations!! They look great!! I love using spices especially salt free ones. We use a lot of Sanzo Goya which is full of MSG so I'd really like to find something else to cook with especially with BBQing which we will be doing again this weekend.

I'm an agnostic about recipe sources although any information that has a manufacturer's name in it makes me suspicious. The recipes on the back of the mayo and catsup bottles always contain about 3 times as much of the product as you need.
