In flipping channels the other day, I saw that a reporter tried an experiment in February - only spending as much as he would if he received food stamps. Granted, he picked the shortest month, but his blog is very interesting.

When I had been in college and working part time, I'd have to go on foodstamps in the summers (we were laid off each summer and rehired in September).
I've had my share of ketchup soup, rice with the freeze dried vegetables (found in the spice aisle), lots of carbs.
I wonder if I could do it again. I hope I NEVER have to find out. Not if my life depended on it. But I could experiment... write down what I spend for food; try to clear out the cupboards before shopping again; only buy what's on sale... I am so glad I can shop at the dollar store - as long as I bypass the snack aisles, the regular food is much less expensive.

I hated to be on foodstamp,, it was degrading to see how some did it and still had fancy flippin cars, brand new furniture, etc etc
My husband built me a nice pantry and I've been busy stocking that when I can get stuff cheap or for free. It's nice to have a stockpile to go to when I need to.
