The inspiration for this recipe came from Marianne M.'s Sloppy Joe recipe. http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?memberId=31605&articleId=281474977569558&nav=Namespace
I had originally planned to make chili fries, but after seeing M's recipe, I thought I would try something a little different.
Sloppy Joes
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
1 T chopped, pickled jalapeno peppers (optional)
1 T firmly packed brown sugar
1 t celery seed
1 t powdered mustard
1 t Worcestershire sauce
1 t vinegar
salt and pepper to taste
In a large frying pan or skillet, cook ground beef and onion til beef is browned; drain well. Return mixture to pan and stir in remaining ingredients; simmer covered, 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove cover and cook til desired thickness is reached.
Steak Fries
2 T vegetable or olive oil
1 T steak seasoning (I used homemade)
1 t powdered mustard
1/2 t onion powder
4 large potatoes, cut into wedges
Preheat oven to 400°.
In a large bowl, mix oil and seasonings. Toss with potato wedges.
Pour out mixture onto a baking pan or cookie sheet. Bake 15 minutes, turn and bake another 15-20 minutes or til potatoes are golden brown and cooked through.
I served the sloppy joes atop a couple fries and garnished with grated velveeta.

Steak seasoning = garlic powder, onion powder, ground black pepper and salt.
Shannon, I had to stop by to tell you that I pulled down the machine that has a glass measuring pitcher on it. Not sure what it is called, but it has a lid. Was going to put the peppers in that machine to chop them up. Then got scared. I was afraid if I inhaled the peppers they would cause me to sneeze and then go into an asthma attack. Sneezing does that for some reason. Anyway, this will be a job for hubby tonight. I'll warn him to put his mask on and gloves. Anyway, this means I am one step closer. Can't wait to really make the habenero salsa with habeneros in it this time instead of jalapenos.
love homemade fries!
