Ingredients:
1 cup dark molasses
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon soda
3 cups flour
1 cup sugar (brown or white)
3/4 cup butter
pinch salt
Whip together molasses, brown sugar and soda, then add 1 cup boiling water. Place in 2 single pie crusts. Work remaining ingredients into crumbs, sprinkle on top of syrup and pat down into syrup. Bake 450 for 10 minutes, then at 350 for 20 minutes.
This is a dessert from the Pennsylvania Dutch country and handed down by my mother-in-law. It is very good served slightly warm with fresh whipped cream or ice cream.
