Agricultural Antibiotics May Be The Cause Of Super-Bugs

Have you been to the grocery store recently and chosen that chicken cut that is not treated with antibiotics? Or did you choose one that was treated with antibiotic, thinking all bacteria in it would be dead?

According to recent research (1), farms may be more effective sources of transmission of antibiotic-resistant bacteria to the community than hospitals. Fresh poultry from animals not treated with antibiotics will probably pose a smaller risk to your health. If you catch any disease from it, antibiotics will really work for you if you need them.

The USDA is currently study a proposed ruling to bar Perdue and other chicken producers from labeling their meat as "antibiotic free".

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has already banned stores in that state from selling milk and meat which is labeled antibiotic free or hormone free.

Monstanto wins again.

I agree. People are so avid about killing germs and being terribly clean that now we catch bugs left and right and nothing helps them.

Recently I have been making a point of buying as many organic foods as I can. I work with a friend who is an organic farmer and some of the fresh fruits and vegetables come from him. I buy grass fed organic buffalo meat from a local health food store along with organic eggs, peanut butter, etc. I buy whole grain bread like Ezekial bread. At work, we are beginning to use as much organic food as possible to feed our clients and their children. We hope to get a government grant to help with the cost. I am still a little nervous about drinking raw milk from healthy grass fed cows but my friend and his family have used it for 6 years with no problems.
